Uponor Contec uses the thermal mass of the concrete structure of a building by installing pipes which can transport heating and cooling water. Ceilings, floor and walls will be used for cooling and contributing to the heating of the building. The inserted pipes utilize the concrete mass to store and exchange thermal energy.

Uponor Contec is not an air-conditioning system and does not replace a proper ventilation system. But as basic loads can be handled, Uponor Contec reduces the conventional fresh air systems to a hygienic health-based minimum and enables a perfect and productive indoor climate. It is invisible, noiseless and without any draught. The operating temperature of the system is close to the ambient temperature. Thus, the Uponor Contec system can be ideally combined with renewable energy sources.

Uponor Contec TS extends concrete surface activation to include a "thermal socket" that enables cooling/heating and/or peak load elements to be suspended directly from the concrete ceiling. The system has an automatic locking device. This means that additional suspended elements can be connected at a later point without having to drain the system first. Uponor Contec TS is installed directly on the formwork for the floor slab and is concreted in along with the distribution lines.

In conclusion, the Uponor Contec system is cost efficient due to lower investment, maintenance costs and low life cycle cost. Savings can be achieved during the construction phase and during the service lifetime of the building - a contribution to sustainability.
